Home Remedies for Ear Infection

Natural Care for Aching Ears.

Why Does My Ear Hurt?

Ear pain can have many cause, like an infection, trapped fluid, earwax build-up, or even pressure changes from flying or swimming.

In some cases, pain from other areas like the throat or jaw can travel to the ear, making it feel sore or achy. The discomfort might be sharp, steady, or come and go, and it can be mild or more intense.

While it’s often harmless and goes away on its own, finding the cause can help you soothe it more effectively. If it lingers or gets worse, a visit to the doctor is a good idea.

How to use home remedies to ease Ear Infection or Pain?

  • Olive Oil: Gently warm a small amount and apply to the outside of the ear using cotton wool to soothe discomfort.

  • Chamomile Brew: Brew chamomile (ideally from dried flowers), let it cool slightly, then place it in a cloth and hold it gently against the ear to calm irritation.

  • Onion Compress: Slice an onion, wrap it in a clean cloth, and place it against the outside of the ear for a few minutes to help ease pain.

  • Mango Leaves: Boil the leaves, let the liquid cool, dip cotton wool into it, and apply gently to the external part of the ear.

  • Olive & Lavender Oil: Mix the oils, soak cotton wool in the blend, and apply to the outside of the ear for soothing relief.

  • Warm Salt Pack: Heat a handful of salt in a pan, place it in a clean cloth, and gently hold it against the ear. The warmth can help reduce pain and draw out moisture.

  • Warm Garlic Compress: Lightly crush a clove of garlic, warm it slightly, then wrap it in a clean cloth. Hold the cloth gently against the outside of the ear for a few minutes. The warmth combined with garlic’s natural antibacterial properties may help ease pain.
